Jure Franko, who won the first medal for Yugoslavia on the Winter Olympic Games in history, it was the silver medal in Grand slalom.
Marja-Liisa Hamalainen won all three individual races in Nordic skiing.
Gaetan Boucher (Canada) and Karin Enke (East Germany) won two gold medals each in Speed skating, while the women`s team from East Germany won 9 out of 12 possible medals in this sport.
Eirik Kvalfoss (Norway) won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal in the Biathlon.
Twins Phil and Steve Mahre from the U.S. won first and second place in the slalom.
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, figure skating partners from Great Britain, won the hearts of the judges who rewarded them with the highest grades for artistic impression. The viewers were also delighted by the couple that remained remembered as one of the most impressive and greatly loved winner in figure skating in the Olympic Games history.
49 National Olympic Committee representations applied for the XIV Winter Olympic Games, which is a record number in the history of the Winter Olympic Games. A record number of participants arrived in Sarajevo - athletes and their escorts - more than 2 500. Sarajevo opened its heart and offered welcome to everyone, regardless where they come from, regardless their race, religion, ideology or political commitment.
The doors were open for all athletes and lovers of sports and Olympic Games. Viewers rating were extremely good. 60 000 people from Sarajevo in the stadium, millions of people from other countries and two billion TV viewers witnessed the spectacle opening - Unforgettable Games.
Games in Sarajevo were a true celebration of sport, the youth of our Planet and have once again shown the World the enormous role sports have in peace, friendship and tolerance amongst people.
